Lazarus Union statement on International Women’s Day

Lazarus Union statement on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day, officially recognised as the United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace, is a stark reminder that the achievements in the fight for equality and women’s rights cannot be taken for granted and continue to require protection, promotion and consistent commitment. As the Lazarus Union – a humanitarian non-governmental organisation with general consultative status at the United Nations (UN ECOSOC) – we are clearly committed to the principles of human rights, social justice and gender equality.

Women and girls worldwide make an indispensable contribution to the social, economic and cultural development of our societies. Nevertheless, in many parts of the world they continue to face disadvantages, discrimination and violence. Poverty, lack of access to education, unequal pay and gender-based violence are just some of the challenges that women face every day. Eliminating these inequalities is not just a matter of fairness – it is a prerequisite for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.

The Lazarus Union sees it as its humanitarian duty to show solidarity, raise awareness and take concrete action to strengthen the position of women and girls in our society. Our organisation is committed to promoting women’s rights, protecting them from gender-based violence and ensuring equal access to education, health care and social services worldwide.

We are convinced that empowering women and girls is a key lever for social progress. By enabling women to reach their full potential, we not only empower women themselves, but also families, communities and entire societies.

This day is not only a moment of remembrance, but a call to action. It is our shared responsibility to break down barriers, promote equal opportunities and amplify the voices of women and girls – regardless of origin, religion or social status.

The Lazarus Union calls on everyone to join this effort. Let us work today and every day to create a world in which equality is a lived reality, in which women live in safety, freedom and dignity and in which their contribution is fully recognised and valued.

Together we stand for a fairer future – for women, for all people, for a better world.
