European 112 Day

The European 112 Day is celebrated every year on 11 February to raise awareness of the single emergency number 112 in Europe. This number is available free of charge to citizens in emergencies in all EU Member States and enables rapid assistance from the police, fire brigade and rescue services.

The 112 emergency number is a life-saving facility that ensures a rapid and coordinated response to emergencies in Europe. Its advantages include:

  • Uniformity: the number is valid in all EU countries as well as in other countries, which is particularly useful for travellers.
  • Multilingual support: Interpreter services are available in many countries to provide rapid assistance in foreign languages.
  • Coordination: The emergency call centres efficiently coordinate the forwarding of calls to the relevant emergency services.

Bedeutung für die Lazarus-Union

The Lazarus Union, as an internationally active NGO with a humanitarian mission, is committed to raising awareness and training in the field of emergency aid. Supporting the European 112 Emergency Call Day contributes to the safety of the population and promotes awareness of:

  • First aid training: The Lazarus Union is committed to the training of first aiders and the dissemination of life-saving measures.
  • Educational work: Information campaigns can improve knowledge about the emergency number 112, especially in population groups with little access to such information.
  • Civil protection: Close cooperation with emergency services and other organisations contributes to effective emergency management.

The European 112 Day is an important initiative to promote safety and emergency awareness in Europe. The Lazarus Union supports these efforts through education, training and cooperation with rescue organisations. Together, we can contribute to a safer society.
