5.6. International Day against Unregulated Fishing
Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems, economic stability, and global food security. It undermines sustainable fisheries management, depletes fish stocks, and disrupts the livelihoods of communities dependent on fishing. Combating IUU fishing requires international cooperation, robust monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, and effective regulation to preserve marine biodiversity and ensure the long-term viability of the fishing industry.
